Chapter 2

The Warden

CHAPTER 2 Before prison, Spank the monkey and Choke D chicken lived pretty decent lives out in the city of Thrage. Choke happened to be a banker while Spank worked as a part time tattoo artist and DJ. They were goofball dealers on the dark market back then- one of the reasons why they ended up in the penitentiary in the first place. Gathering the goofballs was one thing but its trade was a totally different issue altogether and as if getting these gurus locked up in jail was going to deter them from their hunts and trades. It never did. Word got around in the penitentiary and eventually outside its walls that the warden had grown soft and lenient. It was believed that he had been paid by a number of the inmates to overlook the vices, corrupt practices and illegalities that went on within the prison’s walls. His behavior had trickled down to some of the officers and that’s how come they got bribed by the wealthy prisoners from time to time to leak confidential information about things that were going to happen ahead in time. The superior warden, Cridon who was the boss of the wardens from prisons in Thrage and the surrounding cities was hinted by Skye, an astute officer at the Thrage City penitentiary in an enveloped note that read, “IF YOU THINK THE TCP IS DOING SO WELL, YOU’RE WRONG.” Skye was a devout officer who vowed not to have a hand in the unfaithfulness that went on in the prison. The warden of the penitentiary had no idea his boss had heard about his misconduct. In an attempt to make sure the claims about the warden and the officers at the TCP (Thrage City Penitentiary) were true, Cridon sent 3 officers in disguise to inspect the prison as journalists. They went in with claims that they wanted to get to know about the exterior of the building for a documentary only to reveal their identities later during their ‘exploration’. Gathering evidence on Ken’s misconduct was a success for them and after a series of investigations following the presentation of the evidence, Cridon fired Ken together with all the officers that were actively involved in the scandal. Cridon temporarily entrusted the position of the warden to Skye by virtue of his commitment to the law and his refusal to go against it. Skye also had an impressive file record that depicted that he was suitable for the position of the warden for the time being. He was issued the office of the warden in less than a week after the removal of Ken. This change in office led to a roll in of new officers to replace the ones that were fired, new rules, strict measures and all these changes had a lot of the inmates talking. An appreciable number of them were worried. Back in the cells the inmates of the room adjacent to Choke D Chickens’ were involved in a conversation. Inmate 1: Man, with that officer as warden things are gonna get pretty nasty down here. Inmate 2: It’s basically over for most of us…did you see what he did to that shortie the other day at the gym? I’d hate to be that guy. Inmate 3: I saw…yeesh. The scene was very unsightly. Poor guy! But on a more serious note, Skye is gonna give us a really hard time, no doubt about that. Inmate 1: I hope we don’t get into any trouble because those new rules are plain wicked! The inmates continued to chat around but their discussion shifted from prison drama to hot girls. Choke overheard their conversation during his workout session. He seemed unbothered about the fact that the warden was changed since he and his gang were going to get exactly what they wanted no matter what. A more difficult warden and harder rules only meant that he’d have to come up with better schemes to get the goofballs. Spank the Monkey also reacted equally well upon the hearing that Skye had been made warden. Over the past few weeks, Spank had obtained 14 goofballs; 2 green balls, 1 yellow ball and 11 blue balls. He had hidden them in the walls of one of the prison officer’s room and luckily for Spank, that officer didn’t get fired. When food dispatch riders came to deliver food the officers had ordered, this officer gave out the goofballs to be shipped to a fellow dealer who would follow up with the trading on the dark market. In turn, the riders sometimes brought a vile of a green glowing liquid to Spank depending on his request. Spank and his cover up officer were the only ones who knew about the liquid and they never disclosed it to anyone else. They occasionally met up at a secret out-of-bounds area to exchange goofballs and the liquid. Choke on the other hand had accumulated 8 balls; all blue. He entrusted the balls to the beavers to keep because they had been able to create burrows in the corners of the walls of their cell. No officer would notice during an inspection as the bunk beds completely obscured the holes with their position. These beavers by virtue of the burrows could travel miles to the black market to trade and return with updates on the market. The latest update was the recovery of the location of the Golden Sock. The beavers informed Choke D chicken after their most recent trip that the Golden Sock was said to be hidden somewhere in the penitentiary. According to the traders at the dark market, the Golden Sock was the most valuable asset on the market and almost every trader couldn’t wait to get their hands on it. Choke D chicken met up with the beavers to discuss their findings at the market. “How do we get any leads on the last sighting of the Golden Sock? I thought it was only a rumor to begin with…because this is prison and Gold is definitely not going to be lying around somewhere just like that…” said Keith, one of the beavers. “We’ll look into that soon, Keith” replied Choke D Chicken. “For the mean time we have to keep this information tight. That’s how we will be ahead of Spank and the others. They’ll eventually get to know sooner or later but we can utilize the time gap efficiently. “We will find the Golden Sock!” Choke added.
