Chapter 6

The Golden Sock

CHAPTER 6 The beavers phased through the wall into the bathroom by virtue of the flat glassy key they had retrieved from the black market on their last trip. Choke ordered them to get exactly that and a few other things per their importance to their scheme. CLAYMORE: So that’s how the phase-key works, huh. Cool…but the recreation period will be over soon guys. We have to get back before the siren sounds. KEITH: We know, Clay. You don’t have to remind us every two seconds. EDWIN: Guys! I’m de-cloaking the disguise now…it’s tiring! Edwin double tapped his wrist and hovered his palm over it. The figure of Choke D chicken pixelated and got absorbed into a device on Edwin’s arm. EDWIN: (Sighs with relief) Oh man! It feels like I’m getting sucked into muscle every time I assume his figure. At least I was right about the Imager coming in handy, right? CLAYMORE: It’s only this once. You rarely talk about getting important stuff from the black market. EDWIN: I always ask that we fetch a few miscellaneous gadgets but you never listen to me! Keith lights up a flash he picked from one officer and walks a little bit further from Claymore and Edwin as they continued debating. The beavers were now in the supposedly ‘out of commission’ bathroom. They expected to see a dilapidated environ, full of dirt and cobwebs yet the bathroom was as neat as ever. The entrances were padlocked and there were no open windows, only a few vents. The light from the flash caught the attention of Edwin and Claymore. They stared at the clean interior of what was called a prison bathroom. The walls of the interior were tiled with a turquoise-colored ceramic and so were the floors. There were electronic lampstands on the walls and a glass table stood at the center of this extremely spacious room. EDWIN: Woaahh! This place is….it’s amazing. But why is it so clean? Does this mean someone has been coming here often? CLAYMORE: I guess so. Someone has to be living here for this place to be kept this clean. The 3 wandered around the room in search of an opening or at least a clue. They didn’t know how but over the past few days Choke D Chicken was able to depict from his maps that there would be something valuable in the third bathroom. Perhaps, it could be more blue goofballs or best case scenario, the Golden Sock according to him. They continued to look around until Claymore yelled out to Edwin and Keith. CLAYMORE: Hey guys, I think I found something. It was a tile with a broken corner. The 3 beavers gathered to take a look at the tile. CLAYMORE: This is definitely a button of some kind…none of the other tiles have this (He said as he pointed at the broken corner of the tile.) KEITH: Why don’t we try it out then? Let’s see what happens when we push it… Keith pushed the tile and looked around to see if there were any changes in the room but nothing happened. EDWIN: What if we pulled it? Keith slotted his claw into the hollow corner of the tile and pulled it forward. The tile drew forward and clicked. It then moved back slowly to its original position. The beavers now looked around and saw the tile in front of the glass table slide under an adjacent tile. A chained glass prism emerged from the opening. It contained a few blue balls that glowed in the dim-lighted room but there was something else. It was a material with a shining surface. It radiated a golden color from the midst of the blue balls. “I can’t believe this! It’s the Golden sock!” Edwin yelled in excitement. The blaring siren went off instantly. It was time for the prisoners to go back to their cells and the beavers realized they had ran out of time. “Oh no!” they said simultaneously in regret. … Meanwhile Clyde and Finn had gone to check on the cells of Choke and the beavers. Surprisingly, Choke D Chicken was in his cell but the beavers were not in their cell. After they had reported this to Spank the Monkey he immediately grasped a fair idea of what Choke D Chicken may have been planning all along. He needed to confirm his hypotheses and speculations from one person he knew for sure had knowledge of what Choke was planning and why he was planning what he was planning. Spank was obsessed with beating Choke at everything. He never loved to see Choke D Chicken ahead of him in anything and Choke felt the same way about him too. When all the prisoners were making their way to their cells Spank maneuvered his way through the lot and sneaked into the kitchen in the canteen. All the officers were monitoring the inmates as they entered their cells hence there was no security at the canteen, only for that moment but Spank was clever enough to take advantage of it. “HEY! MORRIS! WHERE ARE YOU!?” These were Spank’s words when he just barged into the kitchen breeding fear in the rest of the cooks but they didn’t bother to inform the officers because they all knew what Spank was capable of doing. There were no cameras in the kitchen so even if they reported him they wouldn’t be able to give solid evidence. Morris was the cook that served Spank and always tried to avoid eye contact every time he did. Spank spotted Morris and dashed toward him to grab his apron firmly. He pushed him and pinned him on the cabinet right behind. “I’m gonna ask you only one question, Morris. Did you tell me everything?” “I DID! I DID!” Morris answered in fear and panic. “Then why didn’t you mention anything about the Choke’s next move? “Because I don’t know, please…I told you everything I knew, Spank. Everything! It’s only today I heard that the legendary Golden sock is here…here in the Thrage City Penitentiary. That’s all!” answered Morris. Spank stood back after hearing Morris mention the Golden sock. He let go of Morris and left for his cell. He couldn’t believe what he had just heard. END OF CHAPTER 6
